Water

Such an everyday thing, and yet so vital for good health.

Ideally, we will be made up of a minimum of 70% water – every body system we have is designed to work at its best in a fluid environment. And yet chronic dehydration is incredibly common in Western Society, and it has been estimated that by the time the average person is into their sixties and beyond they may have 5% or more less water in their bodies than when they were children. In addition a healthy brain is made up of 80% water and it has been found that in some cases of deep depression the brain has been dehydrayted by as much as 40%. Maybe you can improve your motivation just by drinking more water!

And often the fluid that is in the body may be stagnant and the equivalent of a muddy puddle! No wonder so many people have health issues. For optimun performance and use of nutrients all body tissues need to be bathed in clean, non-toxic fluid.

Very few people actually drink the required amount of water daily – estimated to be around 2 litres (4 pints). Much of the fluids which are drunk – tea, coffee, alcohol, fizzy drinks – have no hydrating effect at all on the body, and in fact can be harmful.

    Will Tap Water Do?

    No! Tap water is full of chemical and drug residues that anyone in their right mind would think twice about swallowing.

    Mineral water certainly is beneficial, and water filters of the Brita variety are better than no filtering at all, but the optimum is to have a reverse osmosis system as it takes out all but a miniscule percentage of the chemical nasties and drug residues.

    There is a downside, which is that it also takes out all of the beneficial dissolved minerals in some waters, and can leave the water slightly acidic (ideally you want it neutral or alkaline). But the good news is that there is a system now available which not only addresses these issues by remineralising with beneficial minerals, which also leaves the water with an alkalinity of 9.5, which is very cleansing, and also ionizes the water which makes it much more hydrating! Fantastic. Of course, there is a price tag attached to this, but if you are buying bottled water, you see payback within 18 months or so generally, so it is well worth doing. Also the system can move with you if you move house, so it is a long term investment.
